New Authorization Process for Family Planning

Highmark Wholecare continues to invest in technology to better serve our members and providers. We have successfully rolled out a provider portal and new authorization platform that improves the authorization process across all specialties, including family planning.

Effective 05/01/24, all authorizations for sterilizations and pregnancy terminations must be submitted to Highmark Wholecare directly. You will no longer submit family planning authorizations to Adagio Health. The last date for submission of authorizations to Adagio Health will be 4/30/24.

What is changing:

Starting 5/1/24, providers can submit these authorization requests directly to Highmark Wholecare. There are two ways to submit these requests:

The GuidingCare Authorization Portal - Allows providers to submit authorization requests, verify eligibility, and check the status of requests in our online portal. To access the GuidingCare User Guide click here: www.2024GCUserGuide.com
Fax - If submitting requests by fax, providers must use the new fax number and cover page:
- New Fax Number: (833) 559-2857
- Access the new fax cover page here
Providers will no longer be able to submit authorization requests by email after 4/30/24, as the highmark@adagiohealth.org email address will be disabled. In addition, the Adagio fax number (412) 201-4701 will no longer be active after 4/30/24.

What is NOT changing:

The current Toll-Free Number is not changing. Providers should continue to call (800) 532-9465 for family planning authorization questions.
The claim submission process is not changing.
Rules and Regulations for these family planning authorizations are not changing. Continue to follow state and federal guidelines.
